Education Flourished Under British Rule
--> The first school was started in 1824 which is called Lalbhai Dalpatbhai municipal school no. 1 today.
--> 1848 English officer and Poet Dalpatram established Gujarat Vernacular society.
• King Sayaji Rao Gayakwad also stayed in ahemdabad during those days.
First girls school
• First girls school was started in 1851 in Kalupur (tankshal) with financial help from Shethani Harkuvarba and 2nd girls school started in Raipur 1852 with donation by Sheth Maganlal Karamchan
• 1845 first Higer secondary school was started by donation worth 4000 and 4500 contribution from govt ,Shri Bhogilal Pranlal appointed as a principal with 100 rs. Salary and English school was started in new building near Bhadra with 36 students.
• 1853 the first Education board was established and prominent citizens became part of the committee.
• In 1855-56 we got the Teacher’s training institute then called Gujarat normal school and educational inspector Shri Mahipatram Nilkanth was sent to UK for detailed study of education system and later appointed headmaster(principal) of Gujarat normal school.
College
• 1861 first college as morning and evening law lectures were started.
• 1879 Gujarat arts and English college was started in premises of English school which was later transferred to house of shri Ambalal Sarabhai.In 1897 new building was build and college transferred to its current location.
• 1879 first medical school was established with the help of donation of 20,000 r.s from Sheth Behramji Jijibhai in old civil hospital near Ghi Kanta.
Medical college
• The degree awarded to student was H.A.(hospital assistant)after 1897 it was called S.A.S.(sub assistant surgeon)
• 1910 college of physician and surgeon was established and later was given recougnition and called L.C.P.S.(licenciat college of physician and surgeon)till 1942.
• After 1946 B.J. medical school became B.J. mediacal college and came was connected with Mumbai university and new course of M.B.B.S. was started.
Commerce education
• In 1906 Ranchodlal Chotalal commerce school was established and was very prestigious institute during that time as there were no colleges.
Technical Education
 • And sir Chinubhai established Ranchodlal Chotalal Technical Institute (currently at sola R.C.Technical Institute) near kalupur.
